Simply put, solar uses sunlight, abundant and readily available, to power your home. Here are the basics of how that works and the components you need for a solar system.

Panels
Your panels absorb the light from the sun in layers of silicon to create an electric current.
Inverter
An inverter converts the electricity from your panels from “direct current” (DC) electricity (meaning it flows only one direction) to “alternating current” (AC) electricity, which is what we use in our homes and businesses.
Meter
Your meter keeps you connected to the grid, monitors the flow of electricity, and tracks the amount of energy you use. In areas where net metering is available your electricity can flow both into your home OR back into the grid.
Grid Connection & Net Metering
Many areas provide what’s called net metering, which means that any excess power you produce on your rooftop can be sold back into the grid.
Storage
Storage solutions are becoming increasingly more attractive for homeowners who want to store excess energy for use at a later time.
